COMMIT Ministries is helping the Mugomari community in Kenya to maintain a high school mostly for orphans. This village has been ravaged by HIV/AIDS and though the government provides for some education costs, 80% unemployment tempts many to sell their children to an arranged marriage, or to an army, or into a life of sexual slavery rather than send them to school. Just because they are in school, many of these very bright kids are sent home for lack of school fees. No fees, no school; no school, no future. Your sponsorship provides hot meals each day, helps to hire teachers, provide dormitory lodging for some, and even helps the school maintain their facility. This young man is Brian Aswaka. As of February 10, he is 18 years old and a good student in Form 3. His mother left the area to find work so Brian stays with his peasant farmer father and four siblings on a small plot of land they tend for food. There are no discretionary funds to pay school fees. He lists Physics and Business as his favorite subjects and loves to play Soccer too.
